“So, how did you guys get in to this?” asked Josh, lying back in his chair and watching Dean Winchester do likewise on the other side of his desk. “How does anyone get in to this?”
Dean shrugged, took a pull at the beer in his hand. “Same way. Stuff happens, and you find out there’s a whole world out there most people don’t know anything about.”
“Stuff?”
Dean picked at the label on the beer bottle. “Yeah. There was a fire when I was a kid. Our mom died. It was… it wasn’t natural.”
“It was… unnatural?”
“Supernatural.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, well, like I said, stuff happens. Anyway, our dad found out about, y’know, everything. And we grew up learning how to hunt it.”
“So, that’s what you’ve spent your lives doing?”
“Yep. Well, not Sammy. He went off to Stanford.”
“No kidding? It’s a good school.”
“Well, that’s Sam. He’s a geek.”
A voice called in from just outside the door. “You know we can hear you, right?”
“Keep researching,” Dean shouted back. Josh grinned at him, and held out his beer bottle. They clinked, and drank.
“My sister died in a fire,” said Josh suddenly. “It wasn’t, y’know, supernatural. I wanted popcorn, and she made it.”
“That sucks, man.”
“Yeah.” They drank again, this time in silence.
“D’you think they’ve found anything?” asked Dean eventually. Josh shrugged.
“Dunno. Donna might have to get records about the original building over from the OEOB. That could take a day or two. Sooner if she flirts with the guy over there.”
“Josh!”
“Keep researching!” he shouted back.
“I’m not prostituting myself for you!”
“I didn’t ask you to sleep with him!”
Donna appeared in the doorway. “I know what you were asking, Joshua. You want me to use my wiles.”
“You don’t have any wiles.”
“Oh, I have wiles.”
Dean nodded. “Gotta say, dude, she definitely has wiles.”
Josh scowled at him. “Whose side are you on?”
“I have no side. I am side free.”
“Whatever.”
“I’m a circle.”
“Shut up! Donnatella Moss, as your boss, I’m ordering you to go use your wiles on the OEOB guy.” Donna crossed her arms, and stared at him. Josh waved a hand in the vague direction of the OEOB. “Go! Go use your wiles!” Donna shook her head.
“Josh, you bring a whole new level of pathetic to this situation. I’m going to be at my desk. Researching this ghost. With Sam. You two drink your beer.” She went back outside, only to return a second later. “Only one beer for you, Joshua.”
“Donna, I swear to God, if you say…” Donna turned to Dean.
“He has a delicate system.”
“You’re fired!”
Dean watched with interest. “Is she actually going to listen to you about that?”
Josh shook his head, and defiantly opened another beer. “There’s pretty much no chance.”
