I was going to post something very similar but you beat me to it, only Star Trek was my third sci-fi love rather than the first (over protective parents wouldn't allow me to watch it until 1994, Doctor Who was fine though, stupid parents).

Although, my brain is mush trying to sort out the temporals in my mind! As was pointed out to me by the guy I saw it with. "it's a film. Stop thinking."

Hmm yes, that's not likely to happen. Still the curse on the odd number films now well and truely isn't fact any more :)
