Can you hear the raindrops drumming on the rooftops?

There's water, water of life
Jesus gives us the water of life

(Hymn #2, Come and Praise)

Now, I am the first to confess that I am not exactly well up on Christian doctine, but I am fairly certain that the Bible makes no reference to Jesus controlling either (a) precipitation, (b) the water table, or (c) any kind of municipal waterworks. He walked on the stuff, but he didn't provide it wholesale. What gives, Come and Praise?

Did he turn wine into water?

It's metaphorical. I fink.

(paraphrasing)

Jesus asks Samaritan woman for a drink, she's not so sure because Jews don't usually say ANYTHING to Samaritans, but she gives him a drink anyway. He reponds that although she has given him water to drink, he can give her Living Water, so that she may drink and never again be thirsty. Gospel of John, Ch 4, not sure of the verses off the top of my head.

(here via FriendsFriends, had to jump in because I've just come from a conference with "Living Water, Thirsty Land" as its theme.)

Ah, but as we all know 'water of life' is, in fact, a euphemism for whiskey. Which is much more impressive.

If Jesus controls Thames Water he owes me £33.

What [livejournal.com profile] s_adelheid said, plus "On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."

I preached on that once, only my mother (who was present) made a rude comment about going to the loo, so I don't think I'll do that again!
