Quick Rose/Scorpius fic rec: All Our Tomorrows by [livejournal.com profile] sandrine

Most of the Rose/Scorpius stuff I've seen has been slightly pants, clearly written by 14 year olds rehashing Draco/Ginny (or Draco/Hermione), but this was really, really good. And there's House stuff. I love it when people discuss the Houses, because I think it's the one giant flaw of Hogwarts, and I don't think JKR did enough to show that it shouldn't matter.

I have followed in the path of [livejournal.com profile] slemslempike and signed up to blog a Penguin Classic. I have been assigned yonder "Selected Political Speeches" - huzzah! Am looking forward to it...

I bought my grandmother a book of Robert Service poetry recently (well, actually I bought it last summer; I *gave* it to her recently), Rhymes on a Rolling Stone (or something like that). We were flicking through it whilst woeing over the damp in one of the spare rooms, and found this work of genius. I thought I'd share.

The Sceptic

My Father Christmas passed away
When I was barely seven.
At twenty-one, alack-a-day,
I lost my hope of heaven.

Yet not in either lies the curse:
The hell of it’s because
I don’t know which loss hurt the worse –
My God or Santa Claus.

~ Robert Service

Eh bien, there have been in a couple of comms I watch ([livejournal.com profile] lifein1973 and [livejournal.com profile] slashtheweek) in recent days, a challenge to write a fic in six words. Frankly, how genius is this?

It being Friday, I thought I might leap into a multi-fandom version of the same, and invite along anyone else who might like to play because, really, it's hard to go wrong with something like this.

So, fic in six words:

The school is abandoned. Madge weeps.

Sam leaves. Dad disappears. He's alone.

Is love enough? The phone rings. (Major bonus points if you can guess the fandom!!)

There is a very definite queue system in place at the Tesco in St John’s Wood. Unofficial, yes, but definite for all that. It has been in place every time I have popped into Tesco since my first interview at the Wellington before Christmas. You queue along the channel made by the tensabarrier thing, and then, when that’s full, you queue doubled back along the queue that’s there. You do NOT, quite obviously, let the queue spill into the aisles/rest of the shop. Except twice this week I’ve been in, and the queue’s been all over the place. We’re English! Where has the queue-fu gone?
