Title: A Haunting on Pennsylvania Avenue, 13/?
Author: [livejournal.com profile] chaletian
Fandom: Supernatural/The West Wing
Rating: PG

Spoilers: Slight for In the Shadow of Two Gunmen
Summary: Dean and gun control.

“Sam and I nearly burned down the White House,” said Josh nonchalantly, as he accompanied Dean and Sam to the main lobby of the West Wing. Dean looked at him, a little impressed.

“Dude! What, you decided you’d had enough of the place?”

Josh tried to look as if that was exactly what had happened. The near-fire had been a rebellious declaration. It had been like Paul Revere and the Boston Tea Party, it had been… “Well, not so much. It was cold. We were trying to light a fire in the Mural Room. We didn’t realise the fireplace was closed up.”

“Oh.”

“I mean, it wasn’t like it was our fault! That sign…”

“There was a sign?”

“The writing was pretty small, is all I’m saying. They should do something about that.”

Dean grinned. “Yeah, man, you should have words with someone.”

Josh nodded defiantly. “I will. Definitely.”

They had reached the main doors by this time, and Dean nodded towards the Secret Service men. “Will they let us back in?”

Josh looked startled. “Sure. Why wouldn’t they?”

Dean and Sam exchanged glances. “Well, we will be bringing… well, y’know. The tools of the trade,” explained Sam.

“Tools… you’re gonna be armed?”

“Uh – yeah,” said Dean, eyes wide at the question. Josh looked uncomfortable.

“Are you sure that’s really necessary?”

“Pretty sure,” said Dean, nodding as if in thought.

“Cuz, I wouldn’t have thought guns would be much use against, y’know, ghosts.”

“Look, Josh, you’ve been cool with all this, so just trust us, okay? We know what we’re doing. And I know you guys are all with the gun control and everything, but it’s not like you don’t give guns to the Army!”

Sam had been watching Josh, and pulled at his brother’s arm. “It’ll be fine,” he said to Josh. “We’ll bring a couple of shotguns filled with rocksalt – we use it if the spirit manifests – it keeps it away. Can you clear it with those guys?” Josh nodded mutely, and Sam smiled. “Okay. We’ll be back at midnight. You guys’ll have someone to help with concrete, right? And somewhere where we can burn the body?”

Josh nodded again. “Yeah. Midnight.” He looked as if he wanted to say something else, then bit his lip and spun on his heel, heading back towards the offices. He was barely half way down the corridor when they heard him yelling for Donna.

“Nice guy,” said Sam as they headed for the open air.

“Yeah,” agreed Dean. “What is it with liberals and guns, though?”

Sam rolled his eyes. “Dude. Do you, like, ever watch the news?”

Dean grinned. “Hell, it’s not like I say no to CNN when that… what’s her name?... is on it.”

“You are a deeply disturbed man, Dean.” Sam shook his head, and quickly side-stepped as Dean attempted to punch him in the arm. “Don’t you remember, a while back – the assassination attempt on the President?”

Dean squinted, clearly racking his brain. “Uh, maybe?”

“Man, your grasp on current affairs is truly…”

“Alien spores!”

Sam, even as used as he was to the vagaries of Dean’s mind, was a little taken by this. “Alien what now?”

“Alien spores. Infecting the guys who tried to kill him. World Weekly News ran the story for a while.”

“OK. Or, y’know, white supremacists. Josh Lyman was shot. It was a pretty close-run thing, I think. He was in surgery for a long time. I guess it’s not surprising he’s not keen on people running round the White House with guns.”

Dean was silent for a moment. They walked along, heading towards the parking lot where the Impala awaited them. “There are some pretty sick fucks living in the world,” he said eventually. Sam nodded.

“It’s kinda weird. I mean, we kill monsters who are actually monsters. But there’s not much we can do about the monsters who are human.”

“I read a quote about that once,” said Dean. Sam raised an eyebrow.

“Really? From an actual book? What was it?”

“Well, it wasn’t exactly a book.”

“Right.”

“And it wasn’t so much a quote.”

“Uh-huh.”

“It might have been on a beermat.”

“Yeah.”

“I don’t really remember what it said exactly.”

“Mmm.”

“But it was good.”

“I’ll bet.”

They had reached the car by this stage, and Dean unlocked the door, opened it, and paused, one hand resting on the door frame as he looked across at his younger brother.

“So, midnight we go exorcise the White House.” He grinned, bright and broad in the gloomy parking lot. “Having fun yet, Sammy?”

I've just read all of this fic and oh my goodness I love it. It's so deliciously in character, especially Dean and Sam. And I looooved Dean flirting with Donna, and agreeing she has wiles.

Can't wait for more!

I'm so not nagging, I promise... but I was just wondering if you still planned to finish this fic? I came looking to see if I'd missed a part and realize that ... I haven't. You've left us hanging in a grusome spot... *lol*

I just found this fic and could not stop laughing throughout the whole thing. You have all the characters down pat, major and minor (Margaret love!). I have so much love for this crossover and wished people wrote more SPN/TWW. Great job!
