Title: Couldn’t Fence A Vermeer
Author:
chaletian
Fandom: Chalet School/St Trinian’s
Character(s): Kelly, Flash, Jack Maynard
Summary: Jack tracks down his long-lost love.
“It’s just not going to work, Jack,” said the tall, dark-haired girl in a final tone. She stood up, and with a swish of her bob, headed for the door.
“You can’t know that, Joey!” exclaimed Jack.
“My name is Kelly,” said Kelly icily. Flash Harry viewed the newcomer with distaste. Just rocked up, he had, in a swanky car (one that probably hadn’t had a dodgy paintjob by a group of felonious first years), expecting Kelly to just fall at his feet, just cuz he knew some secret of her past. So what if she were an imposter? Wouldn’t be the first at St Trinian’s.
“Joey, darling, it’s taken so long to find you…”
“Well, you’ve had a waste of time, haven’t you? Anyway, you’d better leave, Jack.” She paused as a muted explosion rocketed through the building. “Didn’t leave the keys in the ignition, did you?” Jack nodded, bewildered, and Flash shook his head disapprovingly. Didn’t know anything, this Jack bloke. Kelly sighed. “And I think Miss Cleaver was doing a new anger management course with the Third Years. Oh well.”
“Joey, please! Let me take you away from here!” Flash grimaced at the interloper. All tall and blonde, ‘e were, dressed up like a right proper toff. Still, women liked that sort of thing – just look at Chelsea and that lot.
Kelly had reached the door, resting one hand on the knob. “It’s no good, Jack.” She opened the door, gestured for him to leave. He looked set to protest, then shook his head sorrowfully, and left. Kelly crossed to the window and watched him start the search for his car.
“Though you might have left with ‘im,” said Flash tentatively after a moment or two. “Being a gent an’ all that.”
Kelly shrugged, then grinned. “Oh, he’s OK.” Flash’s face fell, and she elbowed him. “Still, I can’t see Jack Maynard fencing a Vermeer, can you?” In the joy of the moment, Flash gave into impulse, and leaned over and kissed her. She leant into it for a moment, a single blissful moment, then stepped back and raised an eyebrow.
“Watch yourself, Flash,” she said sternly, turning to leave.
“Yes, Kel, sorry, Kel,” said Flash, following her. But he wasn’t really sorry a bit.
