chaletian: (buzzcocks man kissing woman)
♥ So, there was the Summer Frolick. And Xanthe allerged. And then Kathye allerged. I am clearly KILLING PEOPLE. Well, not killing, admittedly, with the bit where they’re both alive, but still…

♥ Sunday was spent very placidly (as it would have to be, given how hot it was). We were up late on Saturday because we were both vee restless and didn’t want to go to sleep, so ended up in bed like the two Ronnies, playing the Game (ah, so much better with the Tin of the Game, though to my horror, I realised that Chad was not in the tin! Infamy!). Slept in very late on Sunday (didn’t get up till eleven), pottered on the internet, had a bacon sandwich for lunch, went to return two wooden spoons and the squash to the Guide Hall, then wandered round Sheen for a bit, getting some fruit and yogurt from Waitrose.

♥ Stopped off in Oxfam on the way home, and I got rather annoyed with the girl at the till, who paid absolutely no attention to me while I paid for my books. She was talking to another woman who worked there, and just blanked me completely. I actually ended up saying something, because I was so pissed off. And she came out with the ridiculous “we’re just volunteers” line. WTF? What has that got to do with anything? Just because you’re not being paid doesn’t mean you shouldn’t act in a professional manner. If you’ve made a commitment to keep shop, then that means doing it properly! Rawr!

♥ Chadstock! Chadstock next month!!

♥ Also, France next month, which will be vee nice. There’s nothing like a bit of holiday, sitting round, eating brie, doing nowt. Lovely.

♥ I need to do some laundry. Am running out of knickers.

Huzzah for the Summer Frolick! Despite last-minute frantic planning, it all went off quite splendidly, and people seemed to enjoy themselves, which was indeed the aim of the exercise. It was vee tiring, and a bit stressful in places, but everyone pulled together in the spirit of Britain And Her Empire, and la, for it was fine. Obviously, giant thanks to Katie, for being the Most Helpful Person Ever (and, of course, the coollest), and to Pim for being vee handy and for doing CS Challenge (how much fun was that, btw?!) and Spanish titles, and to Rosie for being in charge of things and doing the Welsh titles, and to Xanthe for the German titles, and to Ray for helping to move stuff in her car, and to Katherine for helping to tidy up at the end, and my parents, without whom I could never have won this Oscar... oh, hang on a minute...

It was really nice to see everyone, and to meet new people, which always gets me slightly excited. So hurrah!

And thanks to everyone who donated money to the Church Tower appeal and relieved them of some sewing/knitting stuff. We made nearly £40 or so, which isn't too dusty... *g*

So, yep, we're planning Summer Frolick 2008. I have an icon already. If anyone has any cool activity ideas, do let me know!!

Dear, sweet Lord. The Frolick, it is almost upon us. Despite frantic and detailed planning back in February, am not remotely prepared. Will doubtless be a disaster. Everyone will hate me. Am going to put on fake beard and run away to Uzbekistan.

Anyone on my flist who is coming/was going to come and can’t, please can you bop off to the SF2007 thread on the board and confirm or unconfirm yourselves? Merci… (There seem to be far more people coming than I had thought, which is only adding to unbearable pressure, oh God, why did I ever think this was a good idea? I don’t organise things. I *never* organise things! I *can’t* organise things. I’m too crap. *collapses in small puddle of weeping*)

*in a small, completely non-bragging voice* I have been [livejournal.com profile] crack_impala’d again, this time for Dean and Sam being small boys in the back of the car. Am feeling very validated and glowy. Which is good, given the above woe. And, in an attempt to distract myself from said woe, am wasting time by writing Five Times Dean Winchester Was A Girl. Like I don’t have better things to do. Like write questions for Chalet School Challenge.

Oh, fuck, basically.

Ah, well. Hopefully people will enjoy themselves anyway. And I do know how to provide a good spread…

Heads up, my Chalet School peeps! Well, CBB peeps, actually. Having made my icon finally (and OK it's not very good but graphics are Not Easy on a laptop), it's time to pimp ye olde Summer Frolick 2007, details of which may be found here.

This fabulous event (which is by way of being a Chalet School fun day) will take place on Saturday 4 August in south west London, and all CBB members are welcome. So please come, for there is a spankingly good programme, and it will all be jolly exciting and I intend to make lots of scrummy food (because I get a kick out of such things), so it'll be worth it merely for the cupcakes.

So, yes, find out more about the Summer Frolick!!

1. Well, arsity fuck. With knobs on. Apparently, according to the PTB here at the hospital, we are going to have to wear A FUCKING UNIFORM. I cannot emphasise how very, very unhappy I am about this. If I had known about the uniform thing, I would probably have not taken the job. (Well possibly not. I’m on an indignant roll here; let’s not quibble.) And they are fairly hideous. And you have very little choice. Now, I am fat and not overly attractive but, hey, I can dress in a manner calculated to limit the impact of these sad facts as much as possible. No longer. As I said to Katie, I’m going to look like a whale in a blue plastic bag. This is DREADFUL. I don’t see why me dressing in clothes guaranteed to make me look MY WORST is going to make patients have greater confidence in the hospital.

And furthermore, while I actually believe in having school uniform, I see no reason for it in adulthood (other than in jobs where it is necessary for health/safety/hygiene purposes). Gratuitous uniform-wearing is nobody’s friend. Because it’s basically just there to stifle our individuality and, frankly, our worth as human beans. It’s humiliating. It’s a homogenizing, drone-creating system (from which, you will note, the managers are exempt), which is, I think, only going to encourage private patients (who can be tricksy at the best of times, let’s face it) to treat us as being a bit sub-par. So no, not impressed. Will attempt to pervert concept from the inside. Watch this space…

2. On a happier note, Katie and I went to see Ed Byrne at the Riverside Studio last night. It was very, very funny (though I am, obviously, incapable of remembering any of it), and I would highly recommend it. And next week we’re off to see Russell Howard, which is also very exciting. Huzzah generally for comedy. Katie – is it definite for the 8th? If so, I shall book the 9th as leave.

3. District meeting tonight. Yay. (In my sarcastic voice.) Though actually, I have yet to attend one, so it should be minorly interesting, as long as I get home in enough time to watch a bit of TV. We have Life On Mars, Heroes and Buzzcocks to watch, and the new Bones should be up to download, as well.

4. I have a meeting in about half an hour and I’m a bit scared. Because it’s a proper meeting, and I’m going by myself, and I might be expected to know things that I don’t and what-have-you and it’s all a bit terrifying.

5. I have discovered humanism (well, yes, I *had* heard of it before now…), which seems quite interesting and I will have to consider further. Because I do believe (to a certain extent) in a sort of universal morality (which, admittedly, I do think is founded on the generally rather selfish Things I Wouldn’t Want People To Do To Me basis).

6. Supernatural tonight. So that’ll be tomorrow’s download. Last week’s episode was so gloriously brilliant that I’m looking forward to how they’ll continue the theme. Unless it’s shit. Which would be sad.

7. I have come up with a brilliant plan. You will more about it in due course. Suffice it to say, there is brilliance (and a huge amount of general enthusiasm and planning).
