I don't know why the hell it is, but the science-fiction world seems to have gone toxic-barmy over the past year or so. Either it was always that unpleasant and it's just that people are blogging instead of writing LOCs, or it's going through some kind of spasm of growing pains with the effort of realising that people other than able-bodied white men are ALSO PEOPLE. Which you wouldn't think would be that hard for a genre that gave us four-dimensional reptile-critters from Pluto, but there you go. :(
But think of the poor men, Laura! Ladies are getting their lady germs all over this last bastion of manhood. It's so hard to be a man these days with ladies thinking they can do man stuff with no consequences. :(
Women: You are allowed to enjoy romances, soap operas, fluffy comedies and stuff about fashion and/or childraising. AND NOTHING MORE. Time was, a socially awkward misogynist could retreat to his fantasy world where women were mere window dressing by watching something that back then the media was adamant only men enjoyed and, since he'd never actually strike up a conversation with a woman and have his stereotypes challenged, could believe that this remained the case but now there's the internet and the occasional space heroine in trousers and oh God, they like his stuff! GIRLS! Touching his BOY STUFF! MUUUU-UUUUMMMM!!!!
Ugh, so basically, the gist of this article is EWW THERE ARE GIRL GERMS IN SCI-FI, AND IN BRITAIN THEY HAVE IT EVEN WORSE BECAUSE THERE ARE GAY-GERMS IN THEIR SCI-FI!! >.< I swear, considering misogynists like to define themselves as being big tough fearless unemotional MANLY MEN, some of these macho chauvinists aren't half a bunch of easily-threatened, touchy whingers.
Wow, that was like a train wreck. I couldn't stop reading, and what a pile of utter garbage those guys were coming up with. Still, good to see just as many, if not more posters tearing the spotty dweeb to pieces with beautifully written and well reasoned arguments. 'Anti You' had be laughing loudly.
