As I promised yesterday, here are some fic recs of stuff I've read recently (mostly gen(nish)):
The Eggnog Equivalence by
ankaret [Big Bang Theory; Penny and Sheldon]
Penny shambled towards the door, clutching her dressing-gown around her. Ignoring Sheldon wasn't an option. Sheldon would carry on knocking on the door and saying 'Penny' in a weirdly urgent monotone until she opened the door, or, alternatively, until he left his laptop knocking on the door with a small robotic arm whilst he went and got a bottle of water and a small snack to stave off hypoglycaemia. She was astonished no one had stolen his laptop yet. Maybe the robotic arm knew jiu-jitsu.
A fic from last year's Yuletide, this is so sweet! Perfectly Penny and Sheldon.
Five times Becky called Chuck, and one time he called her by
longsufferingly [Supernatural; Chuck and Becky]
Chuck looked at his own story, which was stalling. He was trying to write about something other than Sam and Dean, something he'd actually made up, and so far all he had was "Bill did not hunt the undead. Bill loved flyfishing."
Awesome, awesome Chuck and Becky story, featuring tragically tragic Chuck (no friends) and ridiculously over-enthusiastic Becky. I love these two and this fic is perfectly them!
Fragments by
gnimaerd [Merlin; Morgana, Arthur and Gwen]
Morgana closed her eyes, trying to pull together the blurred, syrupy fragments of her earliest days – the very, very few that featured a woman in soft gowns; a frail smile; very tall to Morgana’s infantile self.
Arthur goes to Morgana after Sins of the Father. I love the dynamic between Arthur, Morgana and Gwen, and the writing's lovely.
Camlann by
ankaret [Merlin; Merlin and Arthur]
The King's advisor wakes with a start and sits up, his shock of greying hair sticking up around his ears, the blankets sliding back and letting in ice-crystal prickles of morning air. He's thought about growing a beard, but Arthur would just say he looked like a prat, and, to be honest, he can't argue.
Future!fic, bringing the Merlin and Arthur we know to Camlann. This is a brilliant take on what these two would be like as grown men with most of their lives behind them - different but recognisable. There's an epic quality, but the relationship between the two characters is much as it is now, including the edge of humour to their interaction. Excellent stuff.
Not Quite The Lady by
tielan [Merlin; Arthur/Gwen]
Queen and linens arrive down at the cottage much later than planned, and if Mildryth scolds her, she takes it meekly, and with only the faintest flush on her cheeks to betray what she was doing all that time.
The King and Queen have sexy times. But really, this fic is about how Gwen can't erase her life as a servant. VG.
Sex Pollen Is A Myth by
seleneheart [SGA; Parrish/Lorne]
"There's no such thing as sex pollen."
"Of course there is. Sheppard's team runs into it all the time. As a botanist, I'd think you'd read those mission reports."
Parrish had no idea how to respond to that. It seemed that 'don't ask, don't tell' also included 'don't see.' He'd read those reports, amused at Sheppard's creativity. "Uh, yeah, I have, but that seems to be a phenomenon confined to susceptible individuals. I thought it was up to the geneticists to figure that out."
"Yeah, it's weird how it mostly just affects him and McKay. But Ronon got it one time, so it's not just Milky Way humans."
"Well, perhaps what they found was more like magical dust, that only affected certain people." Parrish had no intentions of breaking Sheppard's cover, if Lorne was going to be willfully blind.
Lorne. Parrish. Sex pollen. Is there something else I'm supposed to say?
My Father Before Me by
telleer [SGA; Sheppard/McKay]
Rodney is armed with bad latte and his best shirt. It feels completely inadequate. Somehow, something is going to go wrong today. If nothing else, there will be a flood or a hurricane or an earthquake.
I love, love, love this fic. Rodney is left to bring up the children - and he's pretty shit at it. This is real and unapologetic and awesome. Warning: character death.
